Variety No.1 of 7 · Marketing Strategy & Consulting
Clarity before growth.
A strategy engagement answers three questions in plain language: who you are for, what you should say, and what to do first. You leave with priorities, owners and dates, not a binder.
When this is the right call
Sound familiar?
The things people say in the first conversation, more or less word for word.
Marketing is busy but nobody can say what’s working
Channels run in isolation, dashboards look fine, and the leadership team cannot explain the last good month or the last bad one.
The business has outgrown its story
You have added services, locations or markets, and the website and sales material still describe the company you were five years ago.
Too many suppliers, no single plan
A web developer, an ads freelancer, a designer and a printer, each doing good work, none of it pulling in the same direction.
A big decision is coming
A rebrand, a new market, a new product line or a leadership change, and you want the marketing plan settled before the money moves.
What we deliver
What’s in the box.
Scoped to your situation, but the core is consistent. You know exactly what you are buying before the work begins.
Market and competitive review
Where you actually stand against the people you lose deals to, based on what buyers see, not what the internal narrative says.
Positioning and messaging
The specific, defensible claim only you can make, the proof behind it, and the words your team can repeat without a script.
Audience and decision-maker definition
Who decides, who influences, what triggers the search, and what they need to see before they call.
Twelve to twenty-four month roadmap
A sequence of initiatives in priority order, each tied to a measurable outcome and a realistic budget.
Measurement framework
The handful of numbers that matter, how they will be tracked, and the reporting cadence that keeps the plan honest.
Operating recommendations
Who does what, with which suppliers and tools, so the plan survives the Monday after it is delivered.
How the engagement works
Understand. Align.
Sequence. Deliver.
- 1
Understand
Interviews with leadership and front-line staff, data pulled from your analytics, ads and CRM, and a look at the market as your buyers experience it.
- 2
Align
We bring back the three to five truths that should shape every downstream decision and get the leadership team to agree on them before anything is built.
- 3
Sequence
Positioning, roadmap, budget and measurement, in the order that makes each step easier than the last.
- 4
Deliver
A ninety-day kickoff plan with owners, and we stay close through the first quarter of execution.
Relevant work
Where we’ve done this.
“Brand Butter operates like senior partners, not a vendor. They challenged our assumptions, clarified our position, and delivered a brand system that matches the level we’re playing at.”
Tourism & economic development

How long does a strategy engagement take?
Most run six to ten weeks from kickoff to the rollout plan, depending on the number of stakeholders and the depth of research required. Once we have what we need, we move.
What do we actually receive?
A decision framework in whatever form your team will use (a deck, a working document, a one-page plan), plus the measurement setup and a ninety-day kickoff plan. We stay involved through the first quarter of execution.
Can you also implement the plan?
Yes. Many clients continue into brand, website, advertising or SEO work with us. Strategy engagements also stand alone; the plan is yours to execute with whoever you choose.
What size of organization is this for?
Established organizations where marketing has fallen behind the quality of the business, typically with a small marketing team or a leader coordinating several suppliers. If we are not the right fit, we will say so and point you somewhere better.
Let’s talk
Talk to us about strategy.
Describe the situation in a few lines and we’ll reply with a frank read on what to do first. Or skip the form and book thirty minutes. No deck, no pressure.
What happens next. A senior strategist reads every inquiry and replies personally, usually within two business days. The first conversation covers your situation, what you’ve tried, and whether we’re the right fit. If we aren’t, we’ll say so and point you somewhere better.
