Privacy Policy
Brand Butter Marketing Agency Inc. ("Brand Butter," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws, including Quebec's Law 25.
1. Who we are
Brand Butter Marketing Agency Inc. is a Canadian corporation operating a digital strategy consultancy. Our website, brandbutter.ca, is the primary subject of this Privacy Policy. Our designated Privacy Officer can be reached at hello@brandbutter.ca.
2. What we collect
Our website is built to be minimally invasive. We collect only what is necessary to operate the site and respond to your enquiries.
Information you give us
If you contact us directly at hello@brandbutter.ca or book a call via our Calendly link, you will provide personal information to us voluntarily (such as your name, email address, and information about your business or enquiry).
Brand Analysis tool
Our free Brand Analysis tool asks you to enter a website URL. When you run a scan, that URL is transmitted to Google's PageSpeed Insights API to retrieve performance, accessibility, SEO, and best-practice audit data. Google processes the URL in accordance with its own Privacy Policy.
To run a scan, you provide your email address alongside the URL. Your email is used to send you a PDF copy of the report. We may also send occasional strategic insights; you can unsubscribe at any time.
If you have accepted analytics cookies, we record the domain name (not the full URL) and your overall score as analytics events in Google Analytics 4 to help us understand tool usage and improve the service.
Information we collect automatically
When you visit our website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) and our web servers automatically log certain technical information for the purpose of operating the site securely and diagnosing problems. This may include:
- Your internet protocol (IP) address
- Browser type, version, and language
- Operating system
- The referring URL, and the pages you visited on our site
- Date and time of access
This information is not used to identify you personally; it is used to keep the site fast, reliable, and secure.
Third-party services we use
Our website relies on a small number of reputable third-party services that may process limited technical information about your visit:
- Cloudflare — content delivery, security, and bot mitigation. Cloudflare processes IP addresses and technical request metadata.
- Google Fonts — typography. Fonts are loaded over HTTPS; no cookies are set.
- cdnjs (Cloudflare) — JavaScript libraries (GSAP animation engine) loaded via HTTPS.
- Calendly — scheduling tool. If you click a "Book a Call" link, you are directed to Calendly's platform, which has its own privacy policy.
- Google PageSpeed Insights API — when you use our Brand Analysis tool, the website URL you enter is sent to Google's PageSpeed Insights API (Google LLC) to retrieve performance and best-practice audit data. No cookies are set by this service. Google processes the request in accordance with its Privacy Policy.
3. Why we collect it
We collect personal information only for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances, including:
- Responding to your enquiries and scheduling meetings
- Operating, maintaining, and improving our website
- Protecting our site and its visitors from fraud, abuse, and security threats
- Complying with our legal obligations
4. How we use and share it
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
We may disclose personal information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers. We use trusted vendors (such as our hosting and email providers) to help us operate the site and deliver services. These vendors are bound by contractual obligations to protect information entrusted to them.
- Legal obligations. We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of others.
- Business transfers. In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred to the acquiring party, subject to the same protections set out in this policy.
5. Cookies and tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies for three purposes: keeping the site running (strictly necessary), understanding how visitors use it (analytics), and measuring the performance of our marketing campaigns (marketing and advertising).
Strictly necessary cookies load the site, remember your cookie preferences, and cannot be disabled. These include session tokens and the bb_cookie_consent_v1 preference record.
Analytics cookies are set by Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) and Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation) to help us understand page views, user journeys, and session behaviour. Cookie names include _ga, _ga_WQT93LX0HV, _clck, and _clsk. Analytics data may be processed in the United States and other jurisdictions where Google and Microsoft operate.
Marketing and advertising cookies are set by the Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms, Inc.) to measure ad performance on Facebook and Instagram and to help us reach similar audiences in future campaigns. Cookie name: _fbp. Meta may also set third-party cookies (such as fr) on its own domain when the pixel fires; those are governed by Meta's own data practices.
Brand Analysis tool. Our Brand Analysis tool transmits the website URL you enter to Google's PageSpeed Insights API for analysis. This API call does not set any cookies on your device. Brand Butter is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.
If we add, remove, or change these tools in the future, we will update this policy accordingly.
You can control cookies at any time through your browser settings, and you can review your cookie preferences for this site by clicking Cookie Preferences.
6. How long we keep it
We retain personal information only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes it was collected for, or as required by law. Server logs are typically retained for up to 30 days. Email correspondence is retained for the duration of the business relationship and a reasonable period thereafter.

Under PIPEDA and applicable provincial laws, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you

- Withdraw consent for future processing, subject to legal or contractual restrictions
- Request deletion of your personal information, subject to our legal and business obligations

- Lodge a complaint with the applicable regulator if you believe your rights have been violated
To exercise any of these rights, please contact our Privacy Officer at hello@brandbutter.ca. We will respond within 30 days.
8. How we protect it
We take reasonable administrative, physical, and technical safeguards to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification. These include:
- HTTPS encryption for all traffic to and from our site
- Content Security Policy (CSP) and modern security headers
- Access controls on internal systems
- Vendor contracts requiring equivalent protections
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.
9. International transfers
Some of our service providers (such as Cloudflare, Google Fonts, and Calendly) operate globally. Your personal information may be transferred to, stored in, or accessed from countries outside of Canada. These countries may have different data protection laws than Canada. We require our service providers to maintain protections consistent with Canadian law.
10. Children's privacy
Our services are not directed at children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe we have inadvertently done so, please contact us and we will delete the information promptly.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Material changes will be communicated prominently on our site.
